HearHere is a cultural discovery and spoken-guide app. To provide sign-in, image scanning, generated guides, subscription access, private archive features, and baseline security, we process certain account, content, device, and usage data.

We may collect account information such as your email address, user ID, and, if you choose Apple or Google sign-in, the basic account details those providers make available to us for authentication, such as your sign-in identifier, email address, and, when provided, your name; images, avatars, and other content you choose to upload; generated discoveries, guide scripts, audio files, language preferences, and archive records; interaction data such as playback, listening progress, and completion events; subscription and entitlement status; and technical data such as anonymous analytics identifiers, session identifiers, experiment assignments, and basic troubleshooting logs.
When you choose scan or place-guide features, HearHere may request foreground location permission. We use approximate location clues such as city, region, country, and general accuracy to improve scan recognition and to generate place-based guides about the area around you. We do not use background location tracking. If you decline location access, only location-dependent features may be limited.
We use data to create and secure accounts, authenticate users, process uploads, generate recognition results and spoken guides, save your private archive, sync subscription entitlements, restore purchases, run product experiments, improve reliability, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests.
To generate recognition results and place guides, we send submitted images, selected scan context, and when relevant approximate location clues to AI service providers for processing. To generate spoken audio, we send guide text and related voice generation parameters to our text-to-speech provider. Generated results may be incomplete or inaccurate and are provided only for personal reference and cultural exploration. They should not be treated as definitive authentication, provenance, valuation, legal status, or official institutional interpretation.
Subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store and RevenueCat workflow. HearHere does not store full payment card numbers on its own servers, but we do store data related to access status, such as entitlements, trial status, expiration timing, restore results, and portions of subscription event payloads needed to manage access, troubleshoot billing issues, and prevent abuse.
We share data with service providers only as needed to operate HearHere. Current providers include Supabase for authentication, database, and file storage; Apple and Google, when you choose those sign-in methods, to authenticate your account and provide the basic account information you authorize; RevenueCat for subscription status, purchase sync, and subscription event handling; OpenRouter and, where applicable, the model providers it uses to process routed requests for image recognition and guide generation; and ElevenLabs for text-to-speech generation. We may also disclose data when required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to protect rights and safety, to prevent fraud, or as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or service wind-down.
We keep data for as long as your account remains active and for as long as needed to operate HearHere, protect the service, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, comply with law, and maintain legitimate business records. Account records, scan history, archive content, and generated audio are generally retained until you delete your account or we determine they are no longer needed for service operation. De-identified analytics, security logs, subscription records, backup materials, and legally required records may be retained for a reasonable period after account deletion or service changes. If HearHere is discontinued, we may retain data for a transition period and for as long as reasonably necessary to wind down the service, comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud, defend claims, audit historical operations, and protect our rights, users, and business interests.
You can initiate account deletion inside the app. After deletion is confirmed, we delete the account and remove directly associated stored content such as avatars, uploaded images, and generated guide audio, subject to technical limitations and the retention rights described in this policy. Some records may remain for a limited time if they cannot be immediately removed or if we must keep them for security, de-identified analytics, platform-side purchase records, fraud prevention, backups, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict processing of, or request a copy of your personal data.
Your data may be transferred to and stored on infrastructure located outside your jurisdiction, including infrastructure operated by our service providers. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards such as access controls, identity-based data access restrictions, managed storage, and time-limited signed access links, but no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
HearHere is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate consent, contact us and we will handle the request as required by applicable law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If an update materially changes how we handle personal data, we may notify you in the app, on our website, or by another reasonable method. The updated version becomes effective on the date shown on this page.
